Nnenna Okore

Nnenna Okore has sought to marry the recollected imagery of her childhood in southern Nigeria with objects/images which resonate for all of us. Her installations are imbued with a tactile reality, rendered more "real" by their inspiration growing from, and incorporating, found objects. This appreciation for found objects, at least in part, flows from the fact that El Anatsui was her teacher and mentor at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and her employer thereafter in his studio. While El Anatsui's influence may be present, Nnenna's artistic expression is fully her own.
